Professor Romola S. Bucks
BSc. (Hons.), MSc. (Clin. Psychol.), PhD
Romola is Professor and Head of the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia. Before undertaking a PhD in the late 1990s, Romola trained and practiced as a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist in the National Health Service, in the United Kingdom and is an endorsed Clinical Psychologist in Australia. She has been involved in clinical psychology training for more than 20 years, having taught and supervised Clinical Psychology trainees in the UK, then worked as Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology (2001-2005) at the University of Southampton, UK. Following her move to Perth in 2007, Romola has continued to teach Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology MPsych trainees and, from 2012 to 2014, was Director of the Master of Clinical Psychology Program at UWA.
Romola has over 100 peer-reviewed publications in journals spanning hearing, diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, psychological assessment, health psychology, respiratory disease, sleep, psychiatry, neurosurgery, geriatrics, law, clinical neurology, neuroscience, and behavioural sciences. She has designed 3 clinical measures for use in ageing, dementia and stroke. In addition to the Bristol Activities of Daily Living Scale, her visuo-spatial memory test, the Location Learning Test, is published in English, Dutch and German. She has published seminal work characterising the cognitive profile of obstructive sleep apnoea.
